Alkany is W8ST’s solution for one of the hardest-to-solve challenges in waste management: contaminated plastics. Using a patented process that breaks down mixed and soiled plastic waste—including packaging, films and microplastics—Alkany turns plastic into a clean, powerful input for anaerobic digestion and energy recovery.

Plastics are shredded, sorted and treated with Alkany’s proprietary biological catalysts and retention process. Once conditioned, these treated plastics are sent into W8ST's containerised biodigesters, where they’re processed alongside organic waste to generate high-methane biogas, liquid and solid digestate and renewable energy. The process is exothermic and self-sustaining, requiring no external energy to operate—making it a low-cost, high-yield upgrade to standard anaerobic biodigester systems.
